NBA YoungBoy concert, Green Carpet Affair bring thousands to downtown Birmingham
Birmingham Hosts Sold-Out Events Amid Security Concerns
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – Wednesday night saw a bustling atmosphere in Birmingham, with both the NBA YoungBoy concert and the highly anticipated Green Carpet Affair held simultaneously. Tickets to these popular events quickly sold out, attracting thousands to the BJCC and the Birmingham Museum of Art.
Due to heightened safety concerns following incidents at previous NBA YoungBoy concerts, the BJCC implemented stricter security measures, including entry restrictions banning bags, chains, and bandanas. Concertgoers expressed mixed feelings about the rules but understood the necessity for safety amid the larger crowds.
The Green Carpet Affair, hosted by Mayor Randall Woodfin, celebrated the kickoff of Magic City Classic Week. Attendees donned semi-formal attire, eager to enjoy an evening of community spirit. “I have been trying for years to get tickets to this event,” remarked attendee Theresa Barron.
With both events taking place downtown, traffic management became a concern. Birmingham Chief of Police Michael Pickett announced a plan to ease congestion and maintain public safety. As part of these efforts, a youth curfew was set for those outside the concert, requiring parents to pick up children by 11:30 p.m.
Despite the excitement, around 30 individuals reported being turned away from the concert, even with tickets in hand, leaving uncertainty regarding access. Overall, the evening was a vibrant mix of celebration, community, and a vigilant approach to safety.
