New Judge, Trial Date For Man Charged With 2020 Killing Of Indiana Teen In Downtown Tuscaloosa
Murder Trial Set for California Man Accused of Killing Indiana Teen
A new judge will oversee the upcoming murder trial of a California man, Michael Profozich, charged with fatally shooting Indiana teenager, 20-year-old Bradley, during a fight in downtown Tuscaloosa in October 2020. Initially scheduled for January, the trial was rescheduled after Circuit Court Judge Brad Almond’s retirement. The case has now been reassigned to Circuit Court Judge Al May, with jury selection slated for May 11.
Profozich, who has been free on a $150,000 bond since the incident, is defended by attorneys Joel Sogol, Mary Turner, and Birmingham’s Steve Salter. The victim, Bradley, was in Alabama visiting friends and preparing to attend a football game when he was shot. A related civil lawsuit, which has since settled, revealed that Profozich was at a local bar, The Bear Trap, for over seven hours on the night of the shooting. Attorneys for Bradley’s mother allege the bar served him despite visible intoxication.
After leaving the bar around 1:13 a.m., Profozich encountered Bradley and his friends, leading to a confrontation that ended with Profozich shooting Bradley in the stomach. Investigators noted that surveillance footage captured Profozich fleeing the scene post-shooting. The case has garnered attention due to Profozich’s bond status and the lengthy timeline preceding the trial.
