Celebration of Signing Day for Oxford’s Baseball Standouts
In a spirited ceremony held at Oxford’s Champions Athletic Center, three players from the 2023 Class 6A State Championship baseball team celebrated their college signings. Infielder Reid Maniscalco, first baseman Hudson Gilman, and outfielder Nick Richardson are set to further their baseball careers, with Maniscalco joining Snead State Community College, Gilman committing to Chipola College, and Richardson signing with the University of South Alabama.
These signings mark a significant milestone, bringing the total number of players from the championship team who have committed to college baseball to 12. Notable previous signees include Carter Johnson, who has signed with the Florida Marlins after being drafted, and Sam Robertson, who is transferring to Jacksonville State.
The 2023 team, led by former coach Wes Brooks, completed its season with an impressive record of 39 wins, capping it off with a playoff sweep. Coach Travis Janssen praised the trio for their leadership qualities, emphasizing the importance of “servant leadership.”
Maniscalco made a strong impact at second base, finishing with a .314 batting average and contributing three home runs. Richardson was an essential player in the lineup, boasting a .365 average with remarkable performance on the base paths.
