Oxford’s Worlds of Work Celebrates 10th Year, Impacting 50,000 Students in Alabama
Oxford Celebrates 10 Years of WOW Event, Guiding Future Careers
OXFORD, AL – The Worlds of Work (WOW) event, held annually in Oxford, marked its 10th anniversary this year, reaching a remarkable milestone of 50,000 students impacted since its inception. From March 10 to 12, 2025, the three-day expo offered eighth graders and high school juniors invaluable career exploration opportunities, showcasing over 100 pathways across fields such as Automotive, Healthcare, and Public Safety.
Alabama State Senator Keith Kelley emphasized the significance of engaging with students at WOW, noting that such interactions help guide future workforce development. He expressed enthusiasm for witnessing students gain insights into career options while connecting with local professionals who can serve as mentors.
Mike Raita, representing Senator Tommy Tuberville, highlighted the critical nature of workforce development in Alabama, particularly as the state attracts high-tech industries. He commended organizations like East Alabama Works for exposing young people to diverse career opportunities.
Oxford Mayor Alton Craft underscored the collaborative efforts between businesses, government, and educational institutions, which significantly benefit students. “This event is a great example of what we can accomplish when we join forces,” he stated.
Keynote speaker Miller Girvin, President of the Economic Development Partnership of Alabama, called for aligning educational programs with industry demands to prepare students for the future. With overwhelming success in guiding youth toward various career paths, the WOW event continues to transform educational and career opportunities, positioning Alabama as a leader in workforce development.
