Local High School Basketball Highlights: Oxford Clinches Area Host, Anniston Extends Streak
In a thrilling night of high school basketball, the Oxford Yellow Jackets edged past Shades Valley 52-45 in overtime, thanks to Jaylen Alexander’s impressive 26-point performance. This victory secured Oxford’s position as the host for the upcoming area tournament, improving their record to 16-5 overall and 4-0 in Class 6A, Area 11.
The Anniston boys continued their winning spree, achieving their 12th consecutive victory with a 72-64 win over Cleburne County. Dylan Goodson led with 17 points, supported by Kyree Lewis and Caleb Ackles who contributed 15 and 13 points, respectively.
Alexandria also shone with a 61-52 win against Talladega, thanks to Cole Wheeler scoring 18 points. Meanwhile, Jacksonville defeated St. Clair County 68-47 with Aaron Nixon scoring 17 points, which improved Jacksonville’s record to 11-10.
In girls’ action, Jacksonville triumphed over St. Clair County 65-16, with Ontarriah Braxton leading the way with 18 points. The Jacksonville Christian girls carried their momentum forward with a 56-39 victory against Faith Christian, driven by Addy Lee’s standout performance of 25 points and 11 rebounds.
Finally, Ranburne maintained their strong performance, winning 50-26 against Coosa Central. As the season progresses, teams continue to battle for standings and tournament positions in an exciting and competitive schedule.
