Albertville Realtor Faces Federal Charges Linked to Human Trafficking
Arely Guzman, a 28-year-old real estate agent from Albertville, has been charged with conspiracy to transport migrants without proper documentation, connecting her to an alleged violent criminal organization involved in relocating undocumented individuals to the United States. The charges stem from activities dating back to summer 2024 and include serious offenses such as extortion, aggravated assault, and human trafficking in Houston.
Federal prosecutors allege that Guzman’s involvement was highlighted by her social media criticism of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The investigation escalated in May when the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office confiscated a cell phone linked to a separate assault case. Evidence from this device reportedly connected Guzman to the transfer of “special interest migrants,” including individuals from China.
Authorities suggest that the leader of the criminal network is Santoyo Guzman, an incarcerated individual, while Arely Guzman allegedly coordinated the logistics and financial transactions of the operations. Her role in the scheme was substantial enough that she gained local prominence prior to her arrest, being a member of the Albertville Chamber of Commerce. Guzman is scheduled for a court appearance on December 31, as the case sheds light on the serious issue of human trafficking and the challenges posed by undocumented immigration in the U.S.
