Seven appointments made to new Birmingham Regional Water Board
New Birmingham Regional Water Board Appointments Announced Ahead of First Meeting
The newly restructured Birmingham Regional Water Board is set for its inaugural meeting on Wednesday following the announcement of all seven appointments. Governor Kay Ivey revealed the appointments on Tuesday, naming Thomas Hudson Jr., a Jefferson County resident, to the board. Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin appointed Jarvis Patton Sr., while the Birmingham City Council selected Jefferson County Commissioner Sheila Tyson.
Jefferson County Commission President Jimmy Stephens chose Phillip Wiedmeyer, and Lt. Gov. Will Ainsworth appointed Bill Morris. Additionally, the Shelby and Blount County commissions selected Jeff Brumlow and State Rep. David Standridge (R-Hayden), respectively, to round out the board.
This restructuring comes after the passage of new legislation aimed at reforming the governance of the entity formerly known as the Birmingham Water Works Board, which has faced years of controversies and mismanagement. The changes seek to enhance accountability and improve water management in the region, reflecting a commitment to addressing previous issues.
With this new board in place, stakeholders hope to usher in a new era of responsible governance in water services. For further updates and insights, readers are encouraged to subscribe to the newsletter for a daily roundup of key stories.
