Several protest events planned around town surrounding Trump’s Tuscaloosa trip | News
On Thursday evening, President Donald Trump is set to speak at Coleman Coliseum, coinciding with the University of Alabama’s commencement ceremonies. However, the event is expected to be met with significant protests at various locations away from campus. The exact timing of Trump’s address remains uncertain.
In response to his visit, the University of Alabama College Democrats are collaborating with the Alabama Democratic Party to host the “Tide Against Trump Rally” at Snow Hinton Park from 5 to 7 p.m. This rally will feature notable speakers including former U.S. Senator Doug Jones, former presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke, and Senate candidate Kyle Sweetser, as indicated by the Tuscaloosa County Democratic Party.
Additionally, the Indivisible of Northport-Tuscaloosa organization is planning a May Day march at Government Plaza in downtown Tuscaloosa, set for 4 to 7 p.m. This event is co-hosted with Alabama 50501 and follows their recent Town Hall initiative.
On-campus protests are also being organized by the Social Work Association for Cultural Awareness. While the exact location remains to be confirmed, it is likely to occur near Coleman Coliseum, contingent upon the university’s designated protest areas for the day.
These events reflect a heightened political climate and community engagement surrounding Trump’s visit, illustrating the dynamic between university events and civic activism.
