Tuscaloosa City Schools Facing ‘Critical’ Shortage Of Bus Drivers
TCS Seeks School Bus Drivers Amid Critical Shortage
Tuscaloosa City Schools (TCS) is urgently seeking to hire 21 school bus drivers due to a “critical” shortage affecting the district. As part of their recruitment efforts, TCS is offering an attractive compensation package that includes a starting wage of $23.80 per hour, air-conditioned buses, full reimbursement for obtaining a commercial driver’s license, state retirement benefits, and affordable health insurance.
To streamline the hiring process, TCS will host “Apply On-the-Spot” hiring events at its Transportation Department, located at 1302 James Harrison Parkway East, on September 24 and October 1 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Transportation Director Tiny McCool emphasizes that the district is prepared to assist applicants throughout the hiring journey. “If you enjoy working with children and want a job with great benefits and meaningful impact, this is the place to be,” McCool stated.
During these events, prospective drivers can complete applications, learn about the role, and undergo the mandatory fingerprinting process, which entails a fee of $44.95—all in one visit. While prior driving experience is not required, candidates must maintain a clean driving record. For further details, interested individuals can visit TCS’s website or contact the Transportation Department at (205) 247-2400.
