Tuscaloosa Oktoberfest Underway Until 4 P.M. Saturday After 5K
Tuscaloosa Celebrates Third Annual Oktoberfest
The third annual Tuscaloosa Oktoberfest is in full swing at Government Plaza, running until 4 p.m. today. Kicking off the festivities was a successful 5K run, presented by Mercedes-Benz U.S. International, where around 800 participants, many dressed in traditional German attire, enjoyed the warm and sunny weather.
This year’s Oktoberfest, sponsored by UA Online, offers a free event packed with activities including a wiener dog race, a costume contest for dogs of all breeds, and a nail-hammering competition. Attendees can also indulge in various German cuisines and beverages, while enjoying live music throughout the day.
Kelsey Rush, CEO of Visit Tuscaloosa, expressed her excitement about the event’s growth, highlighting the vibrant atmosphere brought by the 5K participants. “Starting this event with more runners than ever before brings so much energy to the Festival from the very beginning,” Rush stated. She encouraged the community to visit Government Plaza in support of the local festivities, especially during a bye week for the Tide.
The inaugural year at Government Plaza has seen significant turnout, marking a successful start for an event that aims to bring the community together. As the day continues, organizers expect more locals to join in the fun, celebrating with great food, music, and a host of exciting activities. For continued coverage of local events, residents are encouraged to keep up with the Tuscaloosa Thread.
