WAAY 31 Exclusive: Former Huntsville veterans home employee accused of stealing from residents | News
A woman has been arrested for allegedly stealing money from veterans at the Floyd E. “Tut” Fann State Veterans Home in Huntsville. Brenda Joan Yarbrough Price, 52, was charged with possession of a forged instrument and financial exploitation of the elderly. Court documents indicate that she was apprehended by Huntsville Police on Tuesday and subsequently released on a $20,000 bond on Wednesday. Sources reported that Price, who was employed at the veterans’ home, allegedly forged checks using residents’ information, resulting in approximately $7,150 being taken from one victim.
Following these accusations, the Alabama Department of Veterans Affairs affirmed its commitment to investigating such incidents alongside the Alabama Department of Public Health and law enforcement to ensure the protection of veterans, who are entitled to dignity and respect. HMR of Alabama, the contractor managing staff at the veterans’ home, also emphasized their dedication to serving veterans but refrained from commenting on individual employee matters due to company policy.
Investigators are currently working to determine the extent of the impact on affected residents, with assurances from WAAY 31 to keep the public updated as more information arises. The incident raises serious concerns regarding the treatment and safety of vulnerable veterans within care facilities.
