High School Football Returns to West Alabama with Exciting Week Zero Matchups
High school football has officially kicked off in West Alabama, bringing thrilling matchups and high expectations. On Thursday, August 21, the Class 2A Tuscaloosa Academy Knights edged out the Class 4A American Christian Academy Patriots in a tight contest, finishing 16-14.
The excitement continued on Friday, August 22, as several teams took to the field. The Hillcrest Patriots, now in their second year as a 7A football squad, dominated the Florence Falcons with a convincing 35-7 victory. Meanwhile, the Hale County Wildcats faced a tough start, losing 42-13 to the Hamilton Aggies.
The Central Falcons showcased their prowess, claiming a commanding 45-13 win over Tuscaloosa County. The Brookwood Panthers struggled to find their rhythm, suffering a 42-7 defeat against the Jasper Vikings. The Northridge Jaguars enjoyed a decisive 41-21 victory over the Calera Eagles, led by standout performances from Jaylin McCray.
Other notable scores included the Northside Rams trouncing the West Blockton Tigers 56-6, the Gordo Greenwave edging the Fayette County Tigers 34-28, and Percy Julian’s victory over the Paul W. Bryant Stampede, with a final score of 23-2. On the flip side, Holy Spirit faced a tough loss to Verbena, concluding at 34-6.
