GADSDEN, Ala. (WBRC) — A mother was arrested after her dead baby girl was discovered in a hearse at a Gadsden funeral home. Authorities identified the child as 1-year-old Blessence Pearl. Terica Pearl, the child’s mother, faces murder charges following the grim finding.
The incident unfolded at the West Gadsden Funeral Home on a Saturday when employees returning from another call spotted what they initially thought was a doll inside the hearse. Upon closer inspection, it turned out to be the lifeless body of the infant, which was not placed in a casket.
Gadsden Police department swiftly initiated an investigation, leading to Pearl’s arrest in under 12 hours. Lieutenant Dusty Ford emphasized the rapid progression from uncertainty to action in this difficult case. Gadsden Mayor Craig Ford expressed pride in the police department’s commitment to uncovering the truth and securing an arrest, noting that while it doesn’t erase the pain, it brings them closer to justice for the child.
